Olive Ridley turtles are back on Gahirmatha Beach off the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Around 46,000 female turtles are on the beach to lay eggs. Last year, 3.60 lakh turtles had laid eggs on the Gahirmatha. Under DRDO directions, visitors and outsiders are not allowed to visit the mass nesting site. Only forest personnel on turtle protection duty have access to the nesting around.
